Destination Highlight

Yuyuan Garden: As the most intact Jiangnan-style garden in Shanghai, Yuyuan Garden epitomizes the “serene elegance and exquisite delicacy” characteristic of southern Chinese gardens from the Ming and Qing dynasties. Established during the Jiajing reign of the Ming Dynasty, this 460-year-old masterpiece is celebrated as the “Crown of Southeastern Gardens”. It showcases architectural excellence from the Ming era, featuring over 30 unique pavilions and towers. The garden preserves numerous ancient trees, Ming-Qing dynasty furniture, calligraphy works by renowned artists, clay sculptures, brick carvings, plaques, and couplets. It was a gathering place for painters of the Shanghai School. Its Jade Linglong stone, one of the Three Great Stones of Jiangnan, features distinctive crevices, perforations, transparency, and slender contours. When sunlight illuminates it, the porous surface shimmers with translucent beauty; wind rustles its surface, while rainwater makes it “weep”. The ancient theater, hailed as the “Southeast’s Premier Stage”, boasts intricate dome ceilings and ornate caisson wells that utilize acoustic principles for natural sound amplification.

Destination Highlight

The Suzhou River Cruise
To the east of the Bund Source Pier lies the former site of a rowing club. Behind it stands a two-story British-style mansion that once served as the British Consulate General in Shanghai, originally constructed in 1849 and standing as the oldest building in the Bund architectural complex. The pointed-roof church structure to the left front of the pier was formerly known as Xintian’an Church (also called United Church), featuring a prominent 33-meter clock tower at its center.
Zhujiajiao
The unique temperament of “Haipai Ancient Town”: Compared with other Jiangnan ancient towns, Zhujiajiao has more “Haipai” style. It used to be a shipping terminal connecting all directions and was prosperous and rich since ancient times. It is an ancient town with the characteristics of “blending Chinese and Western styles and blending ancient and modern styles”.
Abundant film and television production resources: Zhujiajiao, known as the “Hollywood of Shanghai’s suburbs,” has served as a filming location for over 100 TV dramas and movies including *Love in the Rain* and *The Negotiator*. The area’s timeless charm—bridges over flowing streams, black-tiled roofs, whitewashed walls, and winding alleys—creates natural movie sets that require no elaborate staging.
